About

Welcome to Public Affairs Ireland’s 2019 series of CPD Conference events. Our first conference will take place on Friday 21 June in PAI’s Head Office, 25 Mountjoy Square East, Dublin 1. This summer conference will launch the first in a range of learning & development events aimed at assisting our clients in achieving their CPD requirements for 2019.

Following the success of our 2018 CPD Conference Series, which welcomed over 90 legal and non-legal professionals from a range of government organisations nationwide, PAI have programmed our NEW 2019 agenda of CPD topics that are current and relevant to our Public Sector clients.

PAI’s 2019 CPD Programme aims to provide the mandatory CPD requirements in the three key categories:  Management and Professional Development, General and Regulatory areas, and does so by addressing subjects that are actually relevant and pertinent to practitioners working in an in house role or in the public sector generally.

Our 2019 CPD conferences will bring together a host of legal professionals and key industry experts providing attendees with the ideal opportunity and a stimulating forum to discuss topical issues relevant to Public Sector developments. PAI’s panel of speakers will offer a comparative and interdisciplinary approach to the topics delivered while the morning’s event will provide a key networking opportunity for industry peers working within the Public Sector.

CPD – Continuous Professional Development

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is a learning framework that assists professionals working within the Public Sector to update their knowledge, skills, and abilities and assist them in their career progression.

While CPD is best known as a structure of learning development for the Legal Professional, many Public Sector organisations are now also championing the benefits of CPD and have implemented a learning framework of CPD standards in support of their employee’s ongoing professional development.

The advent of a mandatory CPD requirement for solicitors has been embraced by the profession. While the general CPD requirements tend to be easy to meet through attending lectures on new developments in areas of the law, meaningful compliance with the Management and Professional Development and Regulatory requirements can be more challenging to achieve.

All too often practitioners find themselves attending courses in November or December dealing with regulatory or management aspects that are more appropriate to general practitioners in private practice, rather than solicitors working in an in house role, or within the public service. A case of box ticking for the sake of compliance. Sure – you will comply with the mandatory requirements, but at the end of the lecture will you actually have learnt anything that will make a difference to your professional development.

Recognising the importance for practitioners to meet their CPD objective, PAI has aligned our programme of topics to learner needs, encompassing key areas within the 3 categories required under CPD (General CPD Regulatory matters, and Management and Professional Development), while keeping it relevant to those working in an in-house role or in the public sector generally.
